Back in May I was pleased to be invited to participate as a panellists in the University of Warwick Resonate Festival event Step into Coventry’s History: A Virtual Walking Tour.
This evening event was held at St Mary Magdalene Community Hall in the city’s Chapelfields area as well as being streamed online.
It comprised a livestreamed walking tour of the area by local historian Adam Wood, covering Chapelfields’ urban development during the Victorian era, what a well preserved example of a Victorian suburb it remains, and a social history of some of the crimes and unfortunate death’s which occured there during the area’s first decades as a component of Coventry’s urban core.
Following the tour I was pleased to join Adam and the University of Warwick’s Dr. Jen Baker in a panel discussion relating to sensitively engaging with dark historial topics when making work for audiences, regional and social history more broadly, and walking.
It was a great event, and very helpful in terms of reflection upon both what I am doing with Walk Midlands and my current walk across West Midlands county book.
Resonate have also written up a fuller report about the event
