Changes to the Walk Midlands publishing Schedule

Since launching in March 2022 Walk Midlands has maintained a publishing schedule of a new walking route doable without a car, somewhere in the English Midlands, every single week without fail.

This is a significant achievement of which I am very proud and one which has meant Walk Midlands has developed an impressive reach and reputation.

However, since I launched Walk Midlands there have been substantial (positive) changes in my life, and for this reason maintaining that publishing schedule is no longer possible. So, Walk Midlands is moving from a weekly publishing schedule to being more occasional, especially for the remainder of 2026.

When I launched Walk Midlands I was working a string of temporary part-time jobs, none of which were hugely taxing, and had an intermittent practice as a freelance journalist. Subsequently my professional career has developed significantly and I have received numerous promotions, the most recent taking me to a full-time job with an organisation based in London. This has enabled me to be in the fortunate position of being able to buy a house, in an ideal location for me in south Birmingham, though albeit in the form of a property which requires significant renovation prior to moving in. I am also pretty pleased with how my practice as a writer is steadily developing, not least because the relative financial security that I now have enables me to focus on developing longer projects which I really want to undertake and invest time in rather than constantly chasing work.

So, I am in a good place, and very fortunate. But the need to renovate my house over the coming months is the straw that breaks the camel’s back when it comes to publishing Walk Midlands weekly, so it seems best to back out of this commitment properly rather than just allowing it to tail off.

I fully intend to keep maintaining the site and will continue to add walks to it in the latter third of 2026 as I am able. With a view to publishing regularly during 2027 and beyond. After all, I think that it will be an unusual week when I do not go for a walk, doable without a car, somewhere in and around the English Midlands.

So, many thanks for your interest and support since 2022. I will keep putting out this newsletter each month so I look forward to Walk Midlands remaining a part of your journey.

Also: stay turned in the near future for an announcement about some exciting public walks I have lined up for autumn 2026 with Walkspace West Midlands.
